Traditional drain repairs across North Tyneside have a reputation for being messy. Lifting a section of failed clay or pitch-fibre pipe usually means digging through a driveway, lawn or block-paved patio — and the reinstatement is often more disruptive than the original fault. At Enviro Leak Detection we offer a cleaner alternative for homeowners and businesses across Longbenton, Wallsend, North Shields and Whitley Bay: no-dig drain lining.
What Is Drain Lining?
Drain lining (sometimes called cured-in-place pipe, or CIPP) is a trenchless repair method. A flexible liner, impregnated with a structural resin, is fed through an existing access point into the damaged section of pipe. Once it's correctly positioned, the liner is inflated against the host pipe and the resin is cured — typically using ambient temperature, hot water or UV light. The result is a smooth, jointless pipe formed inside the old one, with a service life of fifty years or more.
How the Process Works
- CCTV survey. Every job starts with a high-resolution camera survey. This confirms the location, length and nature of the defect, and tells us whether lining is the right solution.
- High-pressure jetting. The pipe is cleaned thoroughly so the new liner bonds properly to the host pipe wall.
- Liner installation. The resin-soaked liner is inverted or winched into position through an existing manhole or rodding eye — no excavation needed.
- Curing. The liner is inflated and held in place while the resin hardens, forming a structural new pipe within the old one.
- Post-installation CCTV. A final camera run confirms a clean, defect-free finish before the drain is returned to service.
Benefits for North Tyneside Properties
- No excavation — gardens, driveways, block paving and tarmac stay intact.
- Faster completion — most domestic lining jobs are finished in a single day.
- Structural reinforcement — the cured liner strengthens cracked, fractured or displaced pipework.
- Root and infiltration resistance — the seamless finish blocks tree roots and groundwater ingress.
- Improved flow — the smooth bore reduces blockages and improves long-term performance.
When Drain Lining Is the Right Solution
Lining suits a wide range of situations we see across NE12, NE27 and NE28 — cracked clay laterals under driveways, fractured pitch-fibre runs in 1960s estates, displaced joints with minor root ingress, and corroded sections of cast iron. It's particularly useful where excavation would mean lifting expensive block paving, a resin-bound driveway, or a recently landscaped garden.
Lining isn't always appropriate — fully collapsed pipes or drains with severe deformation may need a section of trenchless replacement or, occasionally, a small targeted excavation. The CCTV survey makes that decision straightforward.
Drain Lining and Water Supply Pipes
Drain lining repairs waste pipework. If your concern is the incoming cold-water supply — for example a leaking lead or MDPE main between the boundary and the house — the right approach is usually non-intrusive leak detection followed by a supply pipe renewal. Our engineers cover both disciplines, so you get a single point of contact for the full diagnosis.
